What is CT?
A computed tomography (CT) scan combines x-rays and computer technology to produce comprehensive, cross-sectional images of parts of the body. Through a non-invasive and simple imaging procedure, CT scans deliver crucial diagnostic information to healthcare practitioners.
CT has become an important diagnostic and screening tool since the images have much more detail than regular x-rays. This means MIC radiologists can zero-in on potential areas of concern.
MIC offers the following CT scans:
- Diagnostic scans on the head, chest, abdomen, pelvis, spine, joints and bones.
- Health assessment exams for colorectal cancer, lung cancer and heart disease.
We perform CT exams on a patient-pay basis and appointments are usually available within 3 business days. A referral from your healthcare practitioner is required and our radiologists will provide your practitioner with a complete report, usually within 24 hours.
CT Renovation at Century Park
MIC is dedicated to investing in the latest technology to ensure our patients always receive high-quality exams with minimal radiation exposure.
We are proud to announce that we have installed a new CT scanner as part of a renovation at our Century Park clinic.
The new CT scanner has state-of-the-art low-dose technology. Patients looking for more information should call our MRI/CT booking team at 780-433-1120.
Is there a cost?
Yes. CT exams at MIC clinics are not covered by Alberta Health Care and are offered as a patient-pay service. Some extended health benefit programs or health spending accounts may include these as eligible costs. It is up to you to pay for the exam and then submit any claims for reimbursement.
